Development of a RAM Analysis for Bauxite Ore Beneficiation, Slurry Pipeline and Tailings Pipeline Areas
Bruno Mendonca Justo
The study presents a detailed Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) analysis in a mining operation based on treatment of an extensive database containing more than 1,000,000 corrective- and preventive-maintenance events. The study covered the main production processes, including crushing, storage, reclaiming, plants and slurry pipeline, and was conducted at different levels of granularity: equipment, system, subsystem and item. A total of 130 parent equipment units were mapped. After data treatment, the five items with the greatest impact on RAM indicators were identified, allowing prioritization of the most critical assets. The analysis revealed failure patterns and improvement opportunities, supporting development of an action plan focused on mitigating the main drivers of operational unreliability. Proposed actions include optimization of maintenance strategy, adjustments to preventive plans, engineering modifications and recommendations to increase equipment availability. Expected results include not only reduced unplanned downtime but also increased operational efficiency and production sustainability. The study reinforces the importance of data-driven management for improving reliability in complex industrial environments.
