Mine-Equipment Revitalization – A Case Study from the Perspective of Reliability Engineering
Giordane Jorge Antunes Junior
This work proposes an alternative approach to current company strategies in asset management, in which new equipment is acquired after installed assets reach the end of their economic life. The proposal consists of a sequence of studies applied within a structured methodology. First, the structural condition of the equipment is investigated, mapping stress points and required interventions to ensure structural integrity. Next, the best economic time for asset replacement and the optimal point for equipment overhaul are evaluated, together with multiple scenarios, using financial indicators such as EAC and NPV as decision factors. Finally, recommended repairs and structural reinforcements are executed, along with component, item and system replacement strategies already established by the company’s asset-management practices. The results show that the asset delivers performance equal to or even greater than newly installed equipment, positioning the refurbished unit as the fleet’s best-performing equipment during the analyzed period.
